She/Her
I’m joining the Lived Experience Advisory and Action Group because my commitment to public health is deeply personal, flowing directly from my own experiences as a cancer patient. My experience began with an initial misdiagnosis in Nigeria 2years ago, followed by receiving another diagnosis just three months after arriving in the UK.
Being diagnosed as a young person under 25 while undergoing this rapid transition immediately exposed me to the immense emotional and practical challenges new immigrants and young people face when navigating a complex health system while critically ill.
This personal journey makes me acutely focused on the Collective's values. I strongly connect with Mental Health because I understand the profound emotional impact of the cancer journey on young people, highlighting the critical need for systemic empathy and robust emotional support infrastructure for patients and carers.
For Inclusion, as a young immigrant woman of colour and a health data professional, I bring an analytical lens to systemic barriers. I don't just see the inequality; I can use SPSS and data design to find why it exists.
I also believe in Community. My background in Nigeria taught me the power of collective support, and I am adept at collaborating and working well with different people who hold diverse views. I’m ready to use both my lived insight and my technical skills to advocate for equitable solutions and ensure that every voice, particularly those from underserved groups and young people, leads to real, measurable change in the North Star network.
